Frequently Asked Questions

Technical Questions

What makes Faster Chemistry products so unique?

With broad absorbency and ease-of-use, they are the ideal for all your organic chemistry reaction workup and clean up needs and liquid-liquid extraction projects. They eliminate shaking and separating liquids in a sep funnel and emulsion formation. FastWoRX usually requires a simple and automatable filtration step. No filtration at all is required with Fast2Flash, making it the fastest way to flash chromatography.

Faster Chemistry products enable greater efficiency and more discovery hits while reducing solvent usage by 90% or more.

How do I use your products?

Please refer to the User Guides for detailed information to get you started.

Are FastWoRX and Fast2Flash the same as Solid Phase Extraction (SPE)?

No. SPE is based on adsorption – the surface of the support is treated with a compound to give the surface an affinity for a certain class of target compounds present in the aqueous phase. Using only the surface limits the SPE resin’s capacity to hold organics.

In contrast, FastWoRX and Fast2Flash are based on the broad absorption of organics – they absorb most organics into their bulk volume (the polymer coating of FastWoRX and the pores of Fast2Flash), removing the capacity limit imposed by surface area. The non-specific affinity of the hydrophobic products for organic compounds allows compounds to be absorbed into them while excluding water.

This gives Faster Chemistry products two big advantages over SPE – near universal applicability in SPE-type applications using only a single sorbent and capacity that is not limited by surface area. Therefore, Fast2Flash and FastWoRX can practically separate mixtures at scales ranging from milligrams to kilograms and beyond.

What solvents are compatible with Faster Chemistry products?

Fast2Flash and FastWoRX have been tested with many common solvents such as EtOH, MeOH, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, diethyl ether, THF, dioxane, hexane, toluene, DMF and DMSO. Some swelling may occur but this is normal and reversible. Please see the User Guides for more details.

What safety precautions should I take when handling your products?
